Clay County Court Dockets Explained
A docket is the running court history for a case. In Indiana trial courts, that running history is the Chronological Case Summary. It is the public timeline, not always the full file.
The difference matters. A docket entry may say an order was issued, but the order itself may not be linked online. A docket may show a criminal disposition, civil judgment, traffic payment, probate notice, or converted legacy event without giving every underlying document. When the document is public but not linked, the Indiana Judicial Branch directs users to the clerk in the county where the case is heard. Clay County Court Docket Sources
Clay County dockets come from the local trial courts and the Clerk's record system. The Indiana Judicial Branch lists Clay County in Judicial District 19 with Putnam, Sullivan, and Vigo counties. The local court structure is compact: Clay Circuit Court, Clay Superior Court, and the County Clerk are all in the same courthouse. Clay County Dockets vs Case Records
A docket is best for tracking what happened and what is scheduled next. A full case record is better when the actual document text matters. A Clay County court docket may show that a motion, order, judgment, sentencing order, or notice was filed. Clay County Docket Numbers
Clay County court dockets use Indiana uniform cause numbers. The number includes the county and court identifier, filing year and month, case type, and filing sequence. Clay County's county code is 11. A traffic infraction may use IF, an ordinance violation may use OV, small claims may use SC, dissolution may use DR, and probate matters can use ES, EU, EM, GU, TR, AD, or AH depending on the case type.
Criminal docket numbers can show felony, misdemeanor, miscellaneous criminal, murder, red flag, or older case type codes. The code helps explain why a case was assigned to one court, but it does not tell the whole history. The docket entries still need to be read for amendments, transferred counts, dismissed charges, plea outcomes, and sentencing terms.

Public Access to Clay County Dockets
Indiana's public access framework is broad but not absolute. The Indiana Access to Public Records Act generally supports inspection and copying of public agency records unless an exception applies. The court-specific access rules decide what the public can see in court files, including MyCase docket views. Rule 5 excludes confidential case types and protected information.
Clay County docket users should expect limits for juvenile matters, adoption, mental health proceedings, sealed records, granted expungements, protected-person data, and identifiers such as dates of birth in case details.
